Cutesy things
I rarely rant about the front page, actually, I prefer to rant about people ranting about the front page, but I have to admit: The cutesy pictures of lockets, trinkets, flasks and pocket watches, post-worked in photoshop for cute colors and bokeh, are straining the limits of my tolerance more than crotch shots and slutty MySpace-style self-portraits taken with a cellphone camera.
Bronies
And talking about the front page: I recently stumbled upon an article which, much to my astonishment, mentioned, that the fan base of the My Little Pony show ("Bronies") is mostly heterosexual males in their twenties. Kind of amazing, because when I noticed the equine invasion here on dA, I rather suspected it to be the same audience like e.g. yaoi or hetalia. But the times, they are a-changing, and it seems that heterosexual males in their twenties now can be a fan of things like this
when 20 or 30 years ago the same group (white, heterosexual, nerdy males in their twenties) was more likely to dwell in a basement, gathered around a table with sheets of paper and dices, playing Dungeons and Dragons.
They also say, Bronies have above average education (at least finished high school), which is at least plausible, because I suspect that in high school you still would get beaten up for it.
Paul Graham wrote a text about "Why nerds are unpopular" in high school back in 2003 and I think, it still applies today, even though he didn't know about Bronies [link] .
